Netball: Phoenix Heat Defeat Storm 41 – 36
The Bermuda Netball League Season continued on Wednesday [Nov 23] with the Phoenix Heat defeating Storm by a score of 41 – 36.
A spokesperson said, “Senior League action took place at the BDA College between Phoenix Heat and Storm at 7:00 pm. Both teams displayed a high calibre of both offence and defence resulting in the 1st quarter ending 9-8 in favour of Phoenix. The intensity from Storm increased in the 2nd quarter resulting in key interceptions by the defensive pair of Inshan-nae Smith and Debre’ Evans. Storm capitalized on those interceptions, with their midcourt swiftly advancing the ball to their shooters who confidently put away their shots, ending the quarter with a lead by 2 [20-18].
“The same trend continued in the 3rd quarter resulting in Storm increasing their lead by 5.With the score at 30-25 at the beginning of the 4th quarter, Storm were in position to cruise to victory. Phoenix, had other thoughts. As a team, they defensively forced turnovers all over the court. Of particular note, the athleticism of Phoenix’s GD Kiante Lightbourne saw clean interceptions both in the midcourt and the shooting circle. Those interceptions proved crucial with Heat making no mistake in taking care of the ball as they advanced through the midcourt. Danielle Raynor used her experience as a shooter and managed to give her team the holding target that was missing in the first 3 quarters resulting in a Phoenix Heat win by 5.
