160 students have signed up to participate in the weeklong Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute’s Youth Climate Summit.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute’s Second Annual Youth Climate Summit [YCS] is fast approaching, and the BUEI Team are looking forward to welcoming the 2022 YCS participants. Building on the results of the 2021 Summit, 160 students have signed up to participate in the weeklong event running from Monday, November 21st to Saturday, November 26th. “During the virtual sessions, seven alumni participants of the 2021 yearlong Youth Climate Initiative will present their individual and collective experiences since last year’s event took place. The YCS Alumni will discuss the initiatives they are most proud of and the intended impact of their activism and share tips they have learned along the way through their f focus on Conservation, Sustainability or Climate Justice.
“YCS participants will hear from Conservation representatives Phoenix Palacio, age 15 of the Bermuda Homeschool Network, and Zahra Trott, age 16, from the Berkeley Institute, on Monday, November 21st.
“Sustainability representatives Ava Gibson and Laura Hupman, both age 17 from Bermuda High School, will share their experiences on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Climate Justice representatives Fabiola Adams, age 16 from CedarBridge Academy, and Moriah Bridgewater and Lia Smith, age, 16 and 14 respectively from the Berkeley Institute, will present during Wednesday’s virtual session.”
“The Youth Climate Summit inspires the next generation of activists and change-makers to start making change now, said Ava Gibson, YCS Alumni. “I am looking forward to the next summit and I hope to keep expanding my knowledge and advocating for change within my community. I am so thankful for the opportunity to participate in this amazing experience and cannot recommend it enough to other students.”
