Firefighters Extinguish Fire At Pembroke Dump

The  Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service [BFRS] responded to reports of a fire in the area of the Pembroke Dump, with traffic diversions in place as they battled the blaze, which is now under control as of this morning.

A spokesperson said  “At 11.29hrs [11:29pm] a call was received via 911 reporting a fire near the junction of Dutton Avenue and Marsh Folly Road. Fire located at Pembroke Dump. 2 Fire appliances, 2 Aerial Ladder Vehicles, 1 High Volume Unit, 1 Fire Service Water Tender and 2 Command Cars responded with a total of 16 personnel. Additional personnel were recalled to assist.

“First appliance arrived at 2338hrs [11:38pm] and upon arrival Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service personnel found an area in the middle of the marsh approximately 100 x 100 sqft. fully involved. Firefighters used the High Volume Unit, which carries over a mile of 6 inch hose, to pump water from Number 8 Dock on Front Street to the Pembroke Dump. This required traffic to be diverted.

“The aerial Ladder vehicles allowed firefighters to fight the blaze from above, however there was an area that could not be reached so the surrounding area was wet down to contain the fire and a Fire Watch set up to ensure no further spread. There were no injuries.

“A fire investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the blaze.”
