March 14, 2023

“I congratulate the new firefighters for graduating from their recruitment training course. They have taken the first step towards a meaningful and rewarding career. We are proud of their hard work and dedication,” said Minister of National Security Michael Weeks.

A Government spokesperson said, “Yesterday marked a significant milestone for the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service [BFRS], as ten new firefighters completed their more than three-month recruitment course and celebrated at a ceremony at the Hamilton Fire Station.

“The graduates, who are just back from a specialist training course in airport fire operations in Newcastle, England, were honoured with a parade and awards attended by their families and friends. Minister Weeks, Acting Chief Fire Officer Dana Lovell and other BFRS officials addressed the graduating class, congratulating them on their hard work and dedication to their chosen profession.”

Minister Weeks told the new officers: “You are making Bermuda proud. You are courageous. You should feel immense pride in completing this course. I know it wasn’t easy. Most people would not be able to do what you have done. You have earned the right to be here through hard work and dedication. As you embark on this new journey, we wish you success and safety in all that you do. May you always remain dedicated to your duty, and may your career be filled with many rewarding experiences.”

“I know the BFRS will be holding additional recruitment drives in the future, and I want to encourage other Bermudians to step up to the plate and consider a career in the Fire & Rescue Service.”
