BSSF Senior School Championships 2023
The Berkeley Institute won the Senior School Track and Field Championships in impressive fashion accumulating a massive 672.67 points in front of a big crowd at the Flora Duffy South Field. CedarBridge Academy was the closest rival with 393.33 points. Saltus Grammar School finished in third with 261.50.
J’Naz Richard from CedarBridge Academy and Jaeda Grant from Saltus Grammar School shared the Champion Girls title in the Under 16 girls division. Both of them earned maximum points with Richards winning the 100 and 200 meter races along with the long jump. Grant picked up her golds in the 400, 800 and 1500 meter events. There was also a tie in the Under 16 boys division with Sa-Qui Robinson from Mount Saint Agnes Academy and Khari Sharrieff from the Berkeley Institute. Robinson dominated the throwing events winning the Javelin and Shot Put while finishing second in the Discus. Sharrieff won golds in the 800 meters and high jump while finishing second in the 1500 meters. Other double winners were Miles Outerbridge from Somersfield Academy in the 100 and 200 meters, Tajahir Rogers in the 400 and 1500 meters and Zydn Daniels in the long and triple jump
Warwick Academy ‘s Daria Desmond won the 1500 meters and the 3000 meters while finishing second in the 800 meters to be crowned Champion Girl in the Over 16 division. Kesay Bell from CedarBridge Academy won the javelin and finished second in the shot put. I’Aura Golding won the triple jump and finished third in the 200 meters and long jump.
Recent CARIFTA Octhathlon bronze medalist J’Auza James from the Berkeley Institute won the Over 16 champion boy title after winning the 1500 meters and the high jump and finished third in the 800 meters. Fellow school and CARFITA teammate Seer Carey was victorious in the 400 meters and 800 meters. Chayse Tanner from Saltus Grammar School won the 200 meters and long jump.
The BSSF introduced Primary and Middle School Exhibition races to the meet programme this year. The top eight performers regardless of age group were invited to compete for bragging rights. Jasmine Reid-Rubaine from Harrington Sound Primary won the sprint 100 and 200 meter double in the Primary School Girls Division finishing ahead of Leydi Raynor on both occasions. Sukanya Jobson won gold in the 400 and 800 meters.
In the Middle School Girls category Pria Wilson from Bermuda High School and Dellwood’s Lashae Jones each had a turn at winning sprint gold with Wilson edging Jones in the 100 meters and Jones squeaking past Wilson in the 200 meters. The Whitney Institutes Kalila Daley finished third in both races and won the 400 meters. Sandys Middle School’s Azari Jones claimed Gold in the 800-meters.
There were no double winners in the Primary Boys event, Saltus’ Adam Barritt won the 100 meters. Jaylon Glasford from West Pembroke Primary won the 200 meters and finished second in the 400 meters which was won by Harrington Sound’s Paz Lightbourn-Francis. The 800 meter winner was Hasim Ming from Victor Scott.
Zydon Lightbourne-Furbert continued to impress on the track winning the 400 and 800 meters in the Middle School category. Jeon Wolfe from Dellwood won the 200 meters with Saltus’ Saezhour Dent winning the 100 meters.
