BSSF Senior Boys Badminton Results
Andrew Cox finished an exam and headed to Warwick Academy to win the over 16 division at the 2023 BSSF Senior Boys Badminton tournament.
The Saltus Grammar student defeated Warwick Academy top seed Matthew Banner 11-5, 15-14. Cox defeated Saltus’ James Morrison 11-7 in the quarter-final and Gus Meynell from Warwick Academy 11-9 in the semi-final on his way to winning the title.
Banner’s path to the final included an 11-2 quarter-final win over Hamish Morris from Saltus and an 11-7 semi-final victory over Warwick second seed Zack DaSilva. DaSilva defeated Meynell 8-11, 11-9, 11-2 in the third-place match. DaSilva defeated Zack Bishop from Saltus 11-6 in the Quarter-Finals while Meynell defeated teammate Jack Kyme 11-9 in his quarter-final win.
Banner and Meynell joined forces to defeat DaSilva and Kyme 11-8 11-9 in an all-Warwick final in the doubles tournament. Morrison teamed up with Cox to win Bronze over schoolmates Morris and Bishop. Banner and Meynell defeated Morris and Bishop 11-9 in the semi-final while DaSilva and Kyme defeated Morrison and Cox 15-13 in their semi-final.
Vincent Boisvert from Warwick Academy won the under 16 singles title after defeating Somersfield Academy’s Matthew Troake 11-9 11-4 in the final. Boisvert defeated Jamie Ashton from Saltus Grammar 11-4 in the quarter-final before defeating Somersfield’s Eli Carpol 11-8 in the semis. Troake defeated teammate Milo Morrison 11-9 in the quarter-final then Warwick’s Sebestian Pukk 11-8 in the semi-final. Pukk defeated Carpol 11-10 11-6 in the third-place match.
Warwick also claimed the doubles title with Pukk and Boisvert going undefeated on their way to winning Gold. They defeated the Somersfield pair of Troake and Carpol 11-4 11-4. Matthew Copeland and Zach Macguire won the Bronze Medal for Saltus after defeating Masaki Kitade and Morrison in the third-place match.
