Donna Raynor Elected To World Athletics Council
[Written by Stephen Wright]
Donna Raynor, the former Bermuda National Athletics Association [BNAA] president, has become the first Bermudian to be elected to the World Athletics Council.
Raynor attended the World Athletics Congress in Budapest, Hungary, with Dr Freddie Evans, the BNAA president, and Mia Bean, the BNAA general secretary.
“I still can’t believe it,” Raynor wrote on Facebook today. “I swear I’ve never been so nervous. Thank you to my support team.”
The BNAA wrote on Instagram: “The BNAA would like to congratulate our immediate past president, Donna Raynor, on her election to the World Athletics Council.
“This is the first time in history a Bermudian has been elected to the World Athletics Board.”
Raynor, a former middle-distance runner, stepped down as the BNAA president in December 2021.
Does this mean Bermudians are able to compete under the Bermuda flag or are other countries going to be using Bermuda for athletics?
I think that is a different issue. Bermudians have been competing “under the Bermuda flag” for decades.
Here is my Bermudian American child Ajani Riggs. National Junior Games 2019. Does Bermuda have an archery, fencing, or parashooting team? This child has wanted to be an archer since he saw the gombeys in town and has collected sticks to make his bow and arrows since he was a toddler.
