Ministry On Work At Purvis & Francis Patton

August 25, 2023 | 3 Comments

“Whilst there have been some delays in the construction works at Purvis Primary and Francis Patton Primary Schools, a full contingency plan to provide uninterrupted learning for the students at these schools is in place,” the Ministry said today.

A Ministry of Education spokesperson said, “This plan was shared initially with parents in June and will be further shared with parents directly next week.”

“Project managers from the Ministry of Public Works and contractors are working very hard to ensure that the main school buildings are completed to a high standard once ready for our students.”

“School will open on September 11th for students and our contingency plans will ensure that all students can be welcomed and an exciting new school year can begin.”

“After the meetings with parents, the Minister of Education will inform the public about school readiness and the progress made with repairs and general maintenance over the summer break.”

Considering the significance of that date, why are the schools opening then? Could the Dept of Education not work with the maintence team to ensure the schools open up in a more timely manner? We don’t want students of either school being linked to a date signifying such horrific acts. Bermudian children attending public schools have enough to deal with, we don’t need them saddled with the tragedy of terrorism. Messaging is so important, why put a target on black children?

No surprise, this is the beginning of every school year.

In the case of Purvis, this article aged like sour milk. What a mess.
