A 24ft vessel in distress was towed ashore and all three persons onboard the sinking craft were returned safely to Dockyard.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “On Saturday the 19th of August, 01:09 am, Bermuda Radio received a 911 call from a twenty-four foot vessel in distress, with three persons onboard, taking on water in the western hind grounds near Chub Heads beacon. The vessel taking on water had fired off two flares which got the attention of a local fisherman ‘Sea Scorpion’ fishing nearby.

“On receiving the 911 call, Bermuda Radio instructed all persons onboard the vessel to put on lifejackets and made an all-stations Mayday Relay broadcast on channel sixteen. ‘Sea Scorpion’ replied that he was able to respond and on his way. With the assistance of the ‘Sea Scorpion’ the vessel was towed ashore and all three persons onboard the sinking craft were returned safely to Dockyard.”
