Mia Fishel Scores In Chelsea Women Debut

Mia Fishel has described her debut for Chelsea Women as a “dream come true” after scoring against Tottenham Hotspur Women on the opening day of the Women’s Super League season.
Fishel, whose father Patrick is Bermudian, is related to the Bascomes, the island’s famous football family, including former Bermuda players Andrew and David Bascome.
The 22-year-old opened the scoring in her side’s 2-1 win this weekend in the 28th minute, heading home from Niamh Charles’ inviting cross into the box.
Mishel, who made her debut for the United States women’s senior team last week, signed for Chelsea from Mexican club Tigres this summer for a reported $250,000.
“I’m playing for my dream club with these players. I’ve been here a month and I’m excited,” Fishel told Sky Sports.
“I had no doubts about starting, and that’s kudos to Emma [Hayes] and the team for making me feel welcome.
“The intensity is different from the Mexican league. We don’t get a lot of time on the field. Take more than two touches here, and you’re going to get smashed, that’s the major difference.”
Lauren James doubled the home side’s lead, scrambling home six minutes after the interval before Spurs pulled one back in the 76th minute through Martha Thomas.
Hayes, the Chelsea Women manager, told The Guardian: “Mia’s one player who’s been with us the whole pre-season. I think it’s really helped her … I still think there’s other steps for her to take … but she’s really smart, and I thought she grew in the game.”
