Saltus Raises Funds In Annual House Event
Saltus Grammar School recently concluded its annual House Match event, held from November 14th to 17th, dedicated to fundraising for the 2023-24 Saltus Fund campaign.
A spokesperson said, “A tremendous outpouring of community support and competitive House spirit resulted in colourful rallies dedicated to each of its four Houses: Butterfield, Darrell, Saltus, and Watlington.
“Each year, the Saltus Fund provides the monies necessary to stay true to its mission of enriching our School by providing access to financial assistance to 15% of our students, as well as continuing to support and provide innovations in a variety of academic, performing arts, and athletics programmes available.
“The Saltus House Match Week culminated on the 17th of November with an afternoon of House games designed to bring students, staff, alumni, and families together in the spirit of giving. The afternoon kicked off with a float parade that highlighted the creativity and imagination of our Upper Primary and Secondary students as well as the Saltus Art and Design Technology departments including Steven Masters, Robyn Hooper, Jake Commandeur, and Andrew Hook.
“In keeping with the cricket theme of House Match, alumni Allen Richardson ‘75, Patrick Singleton ‘92, and Jonte Smith ‘12 and Saltus staff member, esteemed Bermuda cricketer, Olin Jones, participated in a ‘Bowl Off’ along with several students from each House. Saltus House prevailed as the winner.
“The day ended with three inter-school football games. Saltus Primary Boys vs.Warwick Academy Primary Boys [9-0], Saltus Primary Girls vs. BHS Primary Girls [0-2], and the final game with Saltus Senior Boys vs.Warwick Academy Senior Boys. The steady downpour of rain did not deter Saltus who rose victorious against Warwick Academy with a final score of 3-1.”
Commenting on the success of this year’s Saltus House Match event, Denise McAdoo, Director of Advancement, said, “This event is a showcase of Saltus school spirit and our ability to come together to make a lasting impact on future possibilities at Saltus. We are so appreciative of the support of our entire community from all of the staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to support all of the activities, to our staff and students who raised the level of House spirit every day, to our parents who helped bolster support for this year’s campaign.”
