Govt Flyer Points For Students At Full Capacity

December 15, 2023 | 12 Comments

“Following the recent announcement that the Government frequent flyer points were offered to students travelling abroad for education, there has been an overwhelming response, reaching full capacity and surpassing expectations,” the Government said today.

A Government spokesperson said, “The program is now oversubscribed, indicating a high level of interest and participation from individuals seeking to avail themselves of the offered flight rewards.

“The accumulated points from travel were offered to be used to assist Bermudian students travelling abroad for education, athletes representing the island, and other citizens needing support for travel in emergencies. Since the programme was implemented, the points have been used to assist several students in returning home or to university and athletes travelling abroad to represent Bermuda in competitions.

“Last month, the Government was informed that the Business Extra programme will end on December 15, 2023. Since the Government was told that the programme would be ending, assistance has been offered, in the first instance, to several local organisations and residents in need via Government departments.”

Premier David Burt said, “We appreciate the overwhelming response we have received and are thankful for the opportunity to offer assistance to our students during the holiday season.

“In alignment with the Government’s 2017 election platform, which mandated the consolidation of all publicly funded travel under a unified business frequent flyer account in the Government of Bermuda’s name, we have successfully fulfilled this commitment. This policy, implemented to enhance efficiency, has proven beneficial for many individuals over the years, demonstrating our commitment to delivering on promises.”

it is hardly a surprise that there has been an overwhelming response to an offer of free air travel by the PLP government!

One just can’t appreciate that the PLP government is using these accumulated miles and the associated benefits with helping our people?

I’m more concerned that they’ve accumulated so many points with thier frequent travel. And yet they were the first to lambaste the OBA anytime they left the island when they were in office.

        • Joe Bloggs says:

Attack and deflect. It has worked for the PLP for over 2 decades now. That cannot be denied.

      • LOL - the real one says:

Howa re they helping you? Did food prices go down?
Obviously, you’re on the F&F plan, so you don’t care about struggling Bermudians.

  2. Trufth says:

Why isn’t the PLP using these points for THEIR OWN travel so we, the taxpayers, aren’t footing the bill for their useless world tour?

    • Hey says:

So we are paying for their positive PR … shameful, because only a few people benefit.

    • Toodle-oo says:

“Why isn’t the PLP using these points for THEIR OWN travel ”
Because it’s an even more effective way of getting votes than green T shirts and turkeys.
(And those bonus mileage points were paid for by us)

      • Billy says:

Don’t worry about the PLP! Worry about the losers in the OBAubp getting their feelings hurt next 5 elections. LMAO

        • Joe Bloggs says:

The UBP was dissolved more than a decade ago. You continue to live in the past.

          • Toodle-oo says:

He thinks (under his multiple accounts) he’s being clever but all he’s showing us is what a bitter , stupid he is .

  3. Vox says:

This is an absurd joke, befitting an utterly incompetent, out of touch Government.
