Minister: ‘Revitalization Of Air Service Continues’

December 13, 2022

“In a recent statement, JetBlue announced daily nonstop service from LaGuardia starting in Spring 2023, opening up greater access to New York and more potential for connections beyond,” said Minister of Transport Wayne Furbert.

Minister Furbert added, “This news follows the announcement last week that United Airlines’ service from Newark will start in March 2023, over a month earlier than anticipated. British Airways will begin daily service between Bermuda and Heathrow in April.

“These gateway cities are vital to our tourism recovery. The revitalization of air service continues with the increased capacity and frequency of flights between Bermuda and existing and new destination airports.”

Minister Furbert concluded, “I am pleased that our existing airline partners are showing a renewed interest in Bermuda. We continue to be optimistic about our air service development prospects.”

So will Jet Blue have both JFK & LGA? or are they just shifting Airports to not go head to head with American Airlines under this new Alliance they have?

  2. Ringmaster says:

When will the Boston flights begin? This is an important gateway city for many reasons.

  3. saud says:

Boston’s very important…because that’s where your hospital is. LMFAO

  4. question says:

Finally. Now that we’ve done away with the ridiculous TA form, which served no health-related purpose whatsoever. Millions of taxpayer money totally wasted, and the Tourism industry held back for a year. Thanks Burt.

  5. sandgrownan says:

Why do we need more airlift? Can island residents support more flights than we have now?

    • Ringmaster says:

Haven’t you seen the new BTA initiative? Due to the lack of hotel rooms, and the popularity of Cup Match camping, the BTA is promoting the “feel the Bermuda experience” and providing tents so visitors can immerse themselves in real Bermuda culture. Special camping sites will be allocated, such as the Cabinet grounds, Government House and Barrs Park.

Wait until the public finds out who the majority share holders are! The OBA needs to allow this one to die a natural death.

  7. Issue says:

Still no direct flights out of the DC region. With three airports (DCA, IAD and BWI), one would think they’d fix this by now given they’re almost 10M people in the region

The Washington flights have always been seasonal. I am sure former UPB Leader Wayne Furbert will announce the summer Washington D.C. fight in due course.

      • Issue says:

Hope you’re right, but they should still have a direct flight from the Washington DC area at least 7 months a year

  8. Sarah says:

    We need Boston back soon!

    • Joe Bloggs says:

Tell that to Delta Airlines, the Bermuda government does not own an airline (yet)

  9. Myron says:

The BDA Gov’t is ANCIENT. The fact that BOS-BDA flights end on 10/28 each year is absurd.
Subsidize it BDA if you want tourists until 1/5 every year. Xmas is an important Holiday and a lot of Tourists are willing to be in BDA.

    • Joe Bloggs says:

      “Subsidize it BDA”

Subsidise a (foreign) private company with what? We are already billion of dollars in debt!

      • Bob says:

Yes because we have 30 that desire to be chief and 6 that continue act like clowns.
