Liam Evans, a Bermuda national team footballer and certified strength and conditioning coach, has launched a podcast for coaches, athletes, and parents interested in learning more about improving athletic performance.

Evans released the first two episodes of The Athletic Edge podcast this week, interviewing Alena Luciani, a strength and conditioning coach and founder of Training XL2 in Toronto, and Javier Mallo, a former strength and conditioning coach at Real Madrid and Elena Isla, the team doctor for the La Liga club’s under-19 side.

He said he hopes his podcasts serve as an educational resource for anyone interested in learning more about exercise science, training methods, injury prevention, and nutrition.

“Podcasts have been super helpful to me as a strength and conditioning coach [at Evans Performance Training]” Evans told Bernews.

“My goal has always been to bring strength and conditioning training to Bermuda.

“I work a lot with our youth athletic population, and I thought it would be a cool way to educate youth athletes and their parents.

“There’s a lot of information out there to choose from, especially on social media, and hosting a podcast allows me to bring other viewpoints to the island.”

The 26-year-old developed a passion for the physical side of training after being offered a football scholarship by Northern Kentucky University, where he studied for a degree in exercise science and kinesiology.

Since returning to the island in 2019, he has been working with some of the island’s top athletes, such as middle-distance runner Dage Minors, footballers from FC Bascome under-13 and under-15 teams, and swimmers from Warwick Academy.

“The podcast is a passion project, really,” the North Village player added. “Hopefully, I can use my network to interview coaches so more information is available in Bermuda, and we can learn from it.

“It’s also helpful for me to continue my professional development and learn from those coaches I interview.”

The Athletic Edge is available on audio streaming services such as Apple, Spotify, and social media platform YouTube.
