Dame Flora Duffy Finishes Eighth In Cagliari
Dame Flora Duffy continued her omeback from a lengthy injury lay-off by finishing eighth in the elite women’s race at the World Triathlon Championship Series [WTCS] Cagliari, Italy, today [May 25].
Duffy, who finished seventh at the WTCS Yokohama in Japan earlier this month – her first race in 18 months – completed the standard-distance course [1.5-kilometre swim, 38 bike and 10km run] in 1hr 48min 08sec.
The 36-year-old’s splits were 18:58, 54:08, 33:54.
The outing was Duffy’s final race before the defence of her Olympic title at the Paris Games on July 31.
Cassandre Beaugrand, of France, won the race in 1:47:25, with Lisa Tertsch, of Germany, second in 1:47:28 and Beth Potter, of Britain, third in 1:47:31.
Duffy, who admitted in a recent interview she contemplated retirement because of a long-term knee injury, became the island’s first Olympic champion when she won the gold medal at the rescheduled Tokyo Games in 2021.
