The Men’s Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play Championships concluded this weekend with the final round held at the Port Royal Golf Club.

A spokesperson said, “The stage was set for a pulsating final round in the Men’s Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play Championship Division, and in the end it was not short on excitement. Kenny Leseur Jr. Leseur’s took a two shot lead into the final round over Oliver Betschart with Adam Perry only a further two shots back. In a see-saw battle which saw numerous lead changes throughout the day it was Kenny Leseur Jr who won the title in a two hole sudden playoff against Oliver Betschart for the title. Leseur Jr shot a final round 75 making a clutch up and down par on the final hole to enter a playoff after Betschart birdied the final hole of regulation play to force the duo into a sudden death playoff.

“The playoff was n full view of a large crowd gathered in the natural amphitheatre on offer at the 18th green at Port Royal Golf Club. Each player made a solid par on the first playoff hole. Going again for the second playoff it was Betschart who found the right fairway bunker off the tee, and Leseur was to the right on the 10th fairway. Betschart was unable to find the green with his approach shot, and Leseur chose a safe option taking trouble out of play with his approach.

“Both players were left with work to do for a par. Oliver Betschart chipped to six feet above the hole, while Kenny Leseur with beautiful soft hands made an ambitious pitch under pressure look easy to leave himself a four foot up hill putt. Betschart’s attempt to save par slide past on the low side, and the stage was set for Leseur. He had a bit of work to do, yet again showed great control of his nerves as he made his par putt to secure his first Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play Men’s Championship Title.

“In the Senior Men’s Championship returning visitor Scott Clark from Columbus, Georgia was a model of consistency, backing up his stellar play in the first two days with a solid final round of 71. Clark posted a three round total of 210 to end up eighteen shots ahead of second place Rod Forrest. Forrest shared second place after a final round charge from Richard Neame. Neame’s final round score 75 saw him jump up the leaderboard and overtake Hav Trott who was alone in third.

“Andrew Yates shot a final round 79 which was good enough held on to top spot holding in the Men’s First Flight. After a first round 82, Paul Egen made amends on his home course and rebounded with a fine 74 to claim second spot only one shot behind Yates.

“In the junior golf division, opening round leader Lewis Macfarlane kept his stellar play managing to shoot 84 to hold off Lachlan Soutter. Soutter was the low junior on the day with a fine score of 80. Rounding out the top three was Cole Graham who bounced back with a solid score in the final round.”
