Photos & Video: Picton Castle Arrives In Bermuda
Picton Castle – a tall ship used for sail training and long-distance education voyages – arrived in St George’s yesterday [July 2] with Bermudian Zoe Skinner on board, with Ms Skinner receiving a special welcome to the island.
Ms Skinner has been on board the ship since October 2022, leaving Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, to circumnavigate the world.
The tall ship and crew are scheduled to spend six days in the East End before returning to Lunenburg to complete their journey.
The Captain’s Log described the entry into Bermuda by saying, “After a beautiful night of sailing towards Bermuda, we fired up the main engine at 0700 to make a final approach to the island to make the pre-arranged pilot time. We were greeted with the pleasant voices of Bermuda radio asking how the passage from Anguilla went, and confirming pilot time. Carried sail all the way to the sea buoy.
“We steamed through the Town Cut while spectators watched. Zoe, our resident Bermudian, was assisting at the helm. The ship anchored at Powder Hole to clear in and then we shifted to go alongside. We threw our lines on to Penno’s Wharf and got the ship tied up well.”
