BPSU To Host Mental Health Awareness Expo
The Bermuda Public Services Union [BPSU] will be hosting a Mental Health Awareness Expo on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI].
A spokesperson said, “In celebration of World Mental Health Day on October 10, 2024, the Bermuda Public Services Union [BPSU] will be hosting a Mental Health Awareness Expo on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI]. The event will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and admission is free, welcoming both union members and the general public to attend.
“Spearheaded by the BPSU’s Mental Health Campaign Committee, this Expo is a pivotal initiative aimed at raising awareness about the significance of mental health in the workplace and the community. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with various mental health professionals and access valuable resources, all designed to help individuals better understand and manage their mental well-being.
“As mental health issues gain prominence both locally and globally, the BPSU is committed to shedding light on the challenges individuals face in maintaining their mental health, especially within work environments. The Expo seeks to dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health and foster open conversations that contribute to a healthier, more supportive community.
BPSU President, Bro. Armell Thomas, emphasized the Union’s dedication to mental health: “Mental health affects every person and every workplace. The BPSU is dedicated to providing our members and the wider community with the resources they need to tackle mental health challenges. This Expo is a crucial opportunity to offer support and guidance for individuals to not only manage their mental health but to thrive.”
A spokesperson added, “The event will feature a diverse range of mental health providers who will share resources, offer guidance, and provide tools to help individuals and families enhance their mental health. Whether it’s managing workplace stress, addressing anxiety or depression, or achieving a better balance between personal and professional life, the Expo promises something for everyone.
Sis. Karen Grant-Simmons, Chairperson of the BPSU Mental Health Campaign Committee, highlighted the importance of accessibility to mental health resources: “We want to create a space where people can feel comfortable discussing their mental health, especially in relation to the workplace. We’re excited to bring together mental health experts and services that will help individuals prioritize their mental well-being.”
A spokesperson added, “The BPSU invites members, families, colleagues, and individuals from all backgrounds to join this family-friendly event. It’s a chance for the community to unite, learn more about mental health, and take significant steps towards fostering healthier environments at home, work, and in the wider community.
