Sunday September 13th: “Good News” Spotlight
News that Bermuda was featured in Archaeology magazine in an article exploring archaeology on Smith Island following the Sea Venture, four Bermuda sports clubs graduated from BEDC’s incubator, each receiving a $5,000 grant to implement its business plan, and Butterfield donated $30,000 to The Eliza DoLittle Society to support food purchases and pantry capacity were among the positive news stories from the past week.
In additional good news, Giavonna Dupree, Kali Bean, Stephan Johnstone, Nhuri Bashir, Sion Symonds and Sarah Vallis received Arts Council grants; CedarBridge Academy welcomed students back for the 2026/27 school year, beginning another year of learning and growth; Team Hayward distributed appreciation bags to teachers and support staff across Bermuda’s public schools; and Riddell’s Bay Gardens & Nature Reserve opened an amphitheatre for live entertainment, recently hosting Romeo & Juliet.
Other good news stories included Warwick Academy students achieving strong IB, BTEC and IGCSE results, with many securing university placements; Tejah Bean earning a first-class computer science degree from Lancaster University through UA92 at age 19; BPS boxers securing three wins in Ontario while representing Bermuda at an International Charity Boxing Gala; and Bermudian karting driver Scott Barnes ranking third among the Rock Island Grand Prix’s all-time winners with 14 victories.
