The Gender Diversity and Inclusion Committee [GDI], on behalf of the Bermuda Olympic Association [BOA], will be hosting a weekend honoring Women in Sport.

A spokesperson said, “The GDI committee is tasked with acknowledging, honoring and promoting Women in Sport; as athletes, coaches, officials and administrators. The BOA is excited to host two events scheduled for the weekend commencing November 8, 2024, with a Girls in Sports Symposium followed by an Awards Ceremony on November 10, 2024, to celebrate Women in Sports Leadership.

“The symposium will focus on the retention of girls’ participation in sports, facilitated with a panel discussion from a selection of Bermuda’s top female athletes. The panelists will offer their expertise and words of encouragement to support the endeavors of the current younger generation of female athletes between the ages of 11 and 17 years old. Sharing their varied sport experiences will assist in the goal of inspiring these young ladies to excel in their athletic pursuits with confidence and dedication.

“On November 10, 2024, the inaugural Women in Sport Leadership [WISL] Awards will take place at the Bermuda Underwater Institute [BUEI]. These awards are designed to acknowledge the women behind the scenes who serve on Bermuda’s National and International Sport Governing Bodies as administrators, officials or board members.

“The recipients of these awards are considered the backbone of their sport organizations and have made significant contributions to the development of sport. Our goal is to host an event honoring and acknowledging these women who are often the unsung heroes of their sports. The BOA will be awarding 12 outstanding women in the community who have exemplified exceptional leadership in sport. They will be presented with the WISL Award on the recommendation and selection by their National Governing Sports Body and the Gender Diversity & Inclusion Committee.

“This black-tie event will include a cocktail hour as well as entertainment to make this an enjoyable event. Tickets are available for purchase via bdatix.com at the price of $25.”
