Governor Welcomes HMS Trent & HMS Medway
Governor Rena Lalgie welcomed the HMS Trent and HMS Medway and extended her thanks to the Royal Bermuda Regiment for their support in facilitating on-island logistics.
A spokesperson said, “Her Excellency the Governor, Ms Rena Lalgie, welcomed the recent visits from HMS Trent and HMS Medway and extended her thanks to the Royal Bermuda Regiment for their support in facilitating on-island logistics. Demonstrating the importance of the long-standing relationship between Bermuda and the Royal Navy, both vessels engaged in outreach events including hosting visits from the Sea Cadets and the Royal Bermuda Regiment’s Junior Leaders.
“HMS Trent was deployed in the Caribbean until relieved by her sister ship HMS Medway earlier this month. Over the last 9 months, HMS Trent has seized narcotics valued at almost £750m and become the first Royal Navy vessel to intercept a ‘narco-sub’ in collaboration with the US Coast Guard and a US Maritime Patrol Aircraft.
“A key priority whilst on patrol between June – November is to provide a reassuring presence to the Overseas Territories during hurricane season. As well as carrying equipment to enable repairs to damaged infrastructure and life-saving medical supplies, the crew also comprise a number of specialists in disaster relief operations. HMS Medway’s patrol will see her continue to prioritise hurricane support which saw HMS Trent provide assistance to the Cayman Islands in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, as well as to the British Virgin Islands to assist after Tropical Storm Ernesto.”
