Loren & Masterworks Presents ‘Flora In Flux’
As part of Bermuda Tourism Authority Art Month, The Loren Hotel and Masterworks Museum present ‘Flora in Flux’, a sculpture exhibition running from October 1 to 31, 2024.
A spokesperson said, “In celebration of the Bermuda Tourism Authority Art Month, The Loren Hotel and The Masterworks Museum proudly announce the opening of Flora in Flux: Shaping Identity, a compelling exhibition by local artists Claire Peverelli and Stratton Hatfield. The exhibition features a collection of sculptures that examine the intersections of Bermuda’s natural and cultural identity. The work will be on display from Tuesday, October 1 until Thursday, October 31 in the Marée Lounge at The Loren Hotel. The public is invited to attend an opening reception on Tuesday, October 1, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
“Flora in Flux uses the island’s unique plant life to reflect the complexity of Bermuda’s ever-evolving identity. Through their dynamic sculptures, Hatfield and Peverelli juxtapose the organic forms of endemic, native, and invasive plant species with rigid concrete, highlighting the tension between preservation and transformation.”
“The plants we’ve chosen to feature are metaphors for how demographics in Bermuda constantly shift,” explains Stratton Hatfield. “The endemic and native species, which have adapted over centuries, represent the strength and endurance of Bermudian culture. Meanwhile, the invasive species evoke the tension that comes with inevitable change, how some can integrate, while others can disrupt the existing harmony.”
“Masterworks is delighted to be a part of this striking sculpture exhibition, made possible through the collaborative efforts of artists Claire and Stratton, The Loren, and The Bermuda Tourism Authority,” states Masterworks’ Executive Director, Risa Hunter. “Together, we are able to showcase the rich cultural heritage and contemporary artistic talent of Bermuda, inviting both locals and international visitors to explore the vibrant art scene that defines our island.”
Curator of The Loren Hotels Art Collection, Penny Liebman Aaron, explained, “This show aligns with our ongoing commitment to contemporary art, culture, and community. We at The Loren Hotels are thrilled to showcase the work of Stratton Hatfield and Claire Peverelli. Hatfield’s and Peverelli’s deep dive into the study of local plant life, and the manner in which they express the dualities of preservation and transformation in sculptural forms, resonates with us. We are so excited to see their installation of sculptures in dialogue with the artworks in The Loren Hotel collection.”
The spokesperson said, “In addition to the opening reception, the artists will have the opportunity to speak about their work and the themes of the exhibition during an Artist Talk on Thursday, October 17, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at The Loren Hotel.
“You can RSVP to the opening and artist talk events by visiting the Masterworks website.
