Scott Barnes Eyes Podium Finish In Vegas
[Written by Stephen Wright]
Karting driver Scott Barnes is aiming for a return to the podium in the Shifter Masters class at the Skusa SuperNationals in Las Vegas, which gets underway today [November 13].
Barnes claimed podium finishes in 2021 and 2022 before suffering misfortune last year, placing fourteenth after disqualification in the final qualifying heat for racing on the wrong tyres.
He was forced to start at the back of the 47-driver grid for the final race.
The 40-year-old has enjoyed a superb year, winning the Skusa Superkarts USA Pro Tour and the Skusa Winter Series.
And he is confident of continuing his fine form at the SuperNats – the most prestigious karting race in North America.
Barnes will warm-up for the five-day event with practice today before heats one and two tomorrow and heat three on Saturday. The final is on Sunday.
“I had nothing but bad luck last year,” Barnes told Bernews. “I got taken out in the first heat race and was disqualified in the third.”
Barnes, who races for Maranello Kart USA, will race in a stacked field of 50 drivers and believes at least 15 are capable of victory.
“There are four or five pro drivers, three or four world champions – a lot of fast guys!
“The goal will be to podium and get three top ten finishes in the heats to set me up for the final.”
Barnes is sponsored by Butterfield & Vallis, representing their Powerade brand, and Simpsons Motorsports.
