Shaun Goater has hailed the Aston Villa Women team’s “calmness and composure” after defeating West Ham United Women 3-1 in the Women’s Super League [WSL] yesterday [December 15].
Goater has won back-to-back matches since stepping up as interim coach to replace Dutchman Robert de Pauw, beating Charlton Athletic Women 4-1 at home in the Women’s League Cup last Wednesday.
Two goals from Adriana Leon and a strike from Kenza Dahl handed Villa the win over West Ham.

“We showed a lot of calmness and composure,” Goater told Aston Villa Women’s social media.
“There was a lot of good play in terms of receiving the ball in pockets and driving, keeping width, and being able to penetrate in behind.
“The fans were absolutely brilliant. They kept the players going.
“[Winning two games] is a huge boost. We’ve scored these goals, we’re starting to understand certain things when we’re out possession, so we’re not as easy to play through.
“We need to make Villa Park a fortress. We’ve got a bit of belief and momentum, and can we turn this into one more win when we get back after the [Christmas] break.”
The victory lifts Villa to seventh in the WSL table.
Goater, who holds a Uefa A licence coaching badge, has previously coached North Village in the Bermudian Premier Division and English non-league sides Ilkeston and New Mills.
