Soca Versus Reggae Returns To Bermuda

March 31, 2025 | 0 Comments

Soca Versus Reggae [SVR] will be held this August, with the organizer saying “this return promises to be momentous.”

A spokesperson said, “In the years since Soca Versus Reggae [SVR] last lit up a sparkling Bermuda night, we’ve lost a lot. SVR was an unqualified highlight of our annual Emancipation celebrations for over a decade. It was a pillar of the Cup Match holiday during its time, and the absolute perfect cap to Bermuda’s favorite sporting event.

“Billed as the ‘Official Cup Match After Party,’ SVR was an unrivalled event – the kind of event that patrons experienced, as opposed to attended. You’ll most certainly agree with this if you ever did experience one. During its heyday, SVR delivered unforgettable vibes to patrons who wanted to revel in the culture and vibrancy of the Caribbean, while simultaneously observing the historic impact of Emancipation.

Promoters … Assemble!

“2025 is a year of renewal, replenishment, and return – in many ways. Bermuda, and the world is just starting to get back to full normalcy after an oppressive era – so it just makes sense to remind our people that we’ve lived through harder times by rejoicing in our Emancipation celebrations with the return of SVR.

“This return promises to be momentous, as a team comprised of Bermuda’s top post-millennial stage show promoters and producers has assembled to bring all their considerable talents to SVR 2025. The original SVR team is back at it, and the team that produced massive events like Cup Match Summer Splash and Cup Match Fever has joined the fold for this historic return.

“Wild Apache Productions [Rowan Ramotar] and Veterans in Action [Declan Harris] have put former rivalries aside and joined the SVR train – adding more drive and determination to deliver another spectacular event that will harken back to the canonical events of the past, while forging forward with style and fashion to burn!

“The SVR team is ready and raring to deliver this show, while also wanting to pay homage to a fallen soldier in founding member of the crew, Renalda Bean. Renalda was an indefatigable force when it came to promoting and producing SVR, and he will be greatly missed. He will be faithfully remembered, however, with the event’s VIP section being named in his honor.

“Patrons of SVR 2025 will have the option to revel in the festivities on hand in the Renalda Bean VIP Pavillion. We at SVR will always have Renalda in our hearts, and we want to acknowledge his impact on the event by ensuring that he is present in VIP with us at SVR 2025.

Let’s Get Ready to Rumble!

“As fans of SVR will already know, the show features an all out clash between the two most popular musical forms to ever come out of the Caribbean. Revelers will have the opportunity to dance the night away to their favorite international Soca hits, and Reggae hits. This year’s event will feature five rounds of glorious battle, with a winner being determined by a panel of judges, and crowd response.

“There is never any way to predict which team will win the bout, but the event is always thoroughly satisfying for true lovers of Caribbean music and culture. The lineup for SVR 2025 is … formidable.

“Round one will feature a clash between former SVR champion Scoobay on the Reggae side, and popular local deejay, Mystro on the Soca side. The local practitioners will keep the vibes going in round 2, when former SVR champion King Jyrus brings the Reggae fire to the set in a clash against Genius, who is also a former SVR champion. Genius will be especially motivated this year, as he is vying to become the first SVR champion to ever lift the cup for Team Reggae AND Team Soca – can he do it? You’ll have to be there to see.

“Round three will bring the international crowd-movers into the fray, with Avalanche – The Caribbean’s Baddest Deejay – bringing the heat for Team Soca, and the legendary Willy Chin representing for Team Reggae.

“By now, patrons will already be happy that they’ve gotten their money’s worth from this epic bacchanal – but it won’t stop there!

“Round four will see recent Redbull UK Culture Clash winner Noah Powa & Polish crashing the party for Team Reggae, while world-renowned, highly-decorated deejay, International Stephen holds the fort for Team Soca.

“The final round of this magnificent show will find the BIG headliners bringing heavy, possibly impossible choices to the judges, and the crowd alike. Team Soca will be led out by rising superstar VGNH, and Team Reggae will close the proceedings with a last word from veteran Dancehall icon Cham.

“Suffice it to say, this will be a knock-down, drag-out clash for the ages. An emancipation celebration not to be missed – and the only place to be after the two-day summer spectacular that is Cup Match has ended on the pitch.
