Dennico Hollis is on the brink of a major milestone as he prepares for the start of the Western Cricket District Union Premiership One season on Saturday [May 3].

The seasoned all-rounder is just 17 wickets away from reaching 100 in all competitions for LOC Hire Stenhousemuir.

Now entering his seventh year at the club, Hollis has set ambitious personal targets for the summer: 600 runs and 30 wickets.

“I have goals in mind for this season,” the seamer told Bernews. “Usually, I’ve written them down by January but this season I’ve taken a different approach.

“Ideally, I’d like to score 600 runs and take 30 wickets – I’m 17 short of taking 100 for my club. That’s something I’m striving for.”

Stenhousemuir have enjoyed solid campaigns in recent years, finishing fourth in the league in each of the past two seasons following their promotion to the top tier.

Now, Hollis, whose are at home to Ferguslie on Saturday, believes his side are ready to go a step further.

“We’re looking to win the league this year,” said Hollis, a former Bermuda national team player.

“We’ve come up short twice and know what went wrong as a unit. There are things we’ve been working on, such as fitness.

“Preparations have been excellent personally and from a team perspective.”

Hollis is also eyeing a return home for the Bermuda Smash Invitational, having put his “name in the hat” for the tournament’s Draft Night at CedarBridge Academy on Friday May 2 at 7pm.

The invitational, which runs from June 1 to 9, will feature 12 international stars alongside local talent.

“There’s a strong possibility I’ll be heading home for the first time in seven years,” Hollis added.

“If so, I’ll miss five games for Stenhousemuir [two 50-over and three T20 matches].

“The Smash is something I want to experience and do well in. It will be nice to showcase myself after seven years away.”
