Motorcycle racer Aeziah Divine made an encouraging start in the opening round of the R&G British Talent Cup at Donington Park in Derby at the weekend.

Divine, representing British team Fibre Tec Honda – MLav Racing, qualified in 23rd place before finishing 21st in the first race and seventeenth in the second in a field of 26 riders.

“Qualifying on Saturday was tough,” Divine wrote on social media.

“Although I was able to get some good sector times down, a few mistakes in other areas of the track meant I wasn’t able to put a fast lap together in the end and qualified P23 of 26.

“I had some really good battles in Race 1, pushing ahead and making up some positions on the opening laps. I finished P21.

“Race 2 went well with a good start that put me up a few positions. However, a few laps in, me and another rider were pushed back when a rider in our group cut the chicane and forced us wide. Unfortunately, as a result we lost touch with the group ahead.

“Despite this, I hit my personal best lap of the weekend, getting down to a mid 1min 42sec and finished P17.”

Divine added: “Overall, I was really happy with the weekend. There’s still a lot to improve on, but we know what those areas are and are confident that we can work together to push further ahead.”

The teenager made his debut in the BTC last year, racing in five of the eight rounds in the Moto3 class.

He started the campaign racing for Microlise Cresswell Racing, a British development team, before joining the Sencat Talent Team/Mortimer Racing – Victoria House Academy as a guest rider.
