The 2025 Lepercq Memorial Tournament was held this weekend.

A spokesperson said, “The Whitney Institute was the center of attention this weekend as the 2025 Lepercq Memorial Traditional Martial Arts Tournament welcomed karateka from across the island for a thrilling showcase of talent, discipline, and determination. Hosted by Shotocup and sanctioned by the Bermuda Karate Federation [BKF], the event highlighted the strength and future of karate in Bermuda.

“In a standout moment, national team member Khwai Mendoza was crowned champion in the Over 16 Advanced Male Kata Division, outperforming a competitive group including Tobiah Goodchild, Michael Burgess, and Tre Simons. Mendoza’s exceptional display of kata precision, timing, and control earned him top honors in one of the tournament’s most closely watched divisions.

“Meanwhile, national team athletes Amarriah Vaughans and Alessia Vianello battled fiercely in the Under 15 Advanced Female Kata division, with Vaughans narrowly taking the gold in a display of technical mastery and emotional intensity.
