The Bermuda Karate Federation [BKF] hosted a free Kata Seminar facilitated by international facilitator, Brandon Abdullah.
A spokesperson said, “On Sunday. September 25th, Local Karate enthusiasts were treated to a free Kata Seminar facilitated by international facilitator, Brandon Abdullah and hosted by the Bermuda Karate Federation [BKF].
“The two seminars spanning 4 hours incorporated Kihon [the basics] as well as advanced Kata for both children and adults of varying ranks.
“The seminar was aimed at uplifting the local karate community as well as providing an opportunity to both learn new and hone existing Kata skills. Joined by Minister of Youth Culture and Sport, the Hon. Dr. Ernest Peets Jr., six local clubs were represented by fifty participants.
General Secretary of the BKF, Edmond Johnson viewed the event a success stating, “The BKF sees these events as a success due to our ability to train multiple people at a cost savings to our membership. There can be no true value placed on the skills learned and honed at todays seminar. “
Participants ranged in age from nine to sixty seven years old and from white belt through to seventh degree black belt.
International instructor Brandon Abdullah stated, “It’s my second time coming to Bermuda to train with the BKF. I admire the organizations dedication to the betterment of karate on the island and the dedication of local karateka. Karate is definitely alive and thriving in Bermuda. ”
The BKF has a full calendar of events including tournaments and future seminars held in conjunction with ShotoCup, a local events promotion company. The 2022 Karate season kicks off on October 16th with the Kata Classic held at Whitney Institutes, Outerbridge Hall. These events are open to the public.
