Golf: BGA Hosts Thanksgiving Challenge

Champions were crowned across three divisions as the Bermuda Golf Association hosted the 36-hole Thanksgiving Challenge at the Turtle Hill Club.

Linda Down secured the title in the ladies [gross] division with a combined total of 21-over-par 129. The division began as a tight contest, with Down, Ann Symonds and Cynthia Semos all carding a first-round score of 12-over-par 66. Down separated herself from the field in the final round to claim the victory.

Ann Symonds finished five strokes back in second place at 26-over-par 134, while Elizabeth Carpio and Semos finished tied for third at 29-over-par 137.

In the men’s blue [gross] division, Johnny Bart earned the victory with a two-round total of 8-over-par 116. Bart and Roger Brangman finished the opening 18 holes deadlocked after both shooting 5-over-par 59. Bart ultimately secured the win by a single stroke, as Brangman finished second at 9-over-par 117. Stephen Roberts completed the top three at 13-over-par 121.

Lewis MacFarlane won the men’s white [gross] division, recording a total of 13-over-par 131. MacFarlane established an early lead after shooting 7-over-par 61 in the first round. EJ Carreiro finished in second place with a score of 18-over-par 126, and Christopher Morris took third at 29-over-par 137.

Specialty prizes were also awarded to players across the field. Lewis MacFarlane won Closest to the Pin on hole 1 for both rounds, while Tony Cabral took the honor on hole 17 for the men’s white division. Simon Benedek won Closest to the Pin on hole 9 in the ladies division, and Sarah Dwyer claimed the prize on Hole 10.
