PLP On OBA, 2026 Budget, Economy & More
“This Budget has been widely welcomed by working people, by businesses, and by organisations across our community,” the PLP said.
A PLP spokesperson said, “Despite having their eighth leader in nine years, we do not anticipate a new approach or a different tone from the One Bermuda Alliance. While yet another actor has taken the stage, we expect the same rehashed, tired, negative script.
“This Budget has been widely welcomed by working people, by businesses, and by organisations across our community. We do not expect the Opposition to say so, even when it would be the simplest and fairest thing to do. Instead, it will be interesting to see how they try to talk down a Budget that so many Bermudians recognise as practical, responsible, and focused on their everyday lives.
“They will say we should have reduced the debt even further, while refusing to acknowledge that their approach would have meant far less money for our roads, our schools, our seniors, our young people, and the services families rely on.
“They will condemn Government spending on Bermudians, while refusing to acknowledge that cost of living relief and tax cuts for workers will make a real difference to household budgets.
“They will talk about “targeted” relief. We agree that support should be targeted, which is exactly what this Budget does. It strikes the right balance by putting the greatest benefit where it is needed most, while maintaining the stability that protects jobs and sustains public services.
“And as for the Shadow Minister of Finance, Bermudians will see a familiar approach: more criticism than alternatives, more sniping than solutions, and a tone that too often seems aimed at discouraging people rather than helping them.
“We make no apology for choosing a different path. This is a Budget that chooses people.
“That is why this Budget:
- Cuts payroll taxes so workers keep more of what they earn.
- Lowers costs on essential goods and electricity.
- Invests in healthcare, affordable housing, and education.
- Strengthens Bermuda’s finances for the future.
“The Opposition will try to turn this into a debate about spreadsheets. We are focused on people.”
