Three Cities Bid For 2029 Jr PanAm Games
Argentina, Guatemala, and Panama have submitted bids to host the 2029 Junior Pan American Games – which Bermuda is likely to send a team to compete in — with the official candidate cities to be announced on June 19.
A spokesperson said, “The Olympic Committees of Argentina, Guatemala, and Panama have nominated their respective cities, demonstrating strong interest in hosting the continent’s premier youth multi-sport event. On June 19, the official candidate cities vying to host this major event will be announced.
“Last night marked the deadline for Panam Sports member National Olympic Committees to express their interest in hosting the upcoming 2029 Junior Pan American Games.
“The Pan American Sports Organization received a total of three applications from the National Olympic Committees of Argentina, Guatemala, and Panama.
“Thus, having met all the official requirements of this first stage of the process, Rosario, Guatemala City, and Panama City advance to the next phase, which will determine the official candidate cities to host the continental event.”
“We are very pleased with the interest shown by three major cities of our continent in hosting the 2029 Junior Pan American Games. The 2021 Cali-Valle Games and the 2025 Asuncion Games were a resounding success and left an extremely important legacy, not only in terms of infrastructure but also an admirable intangible legacy. We want to continue on this path, which has contributed significantly to the sport development of the region’s younger generations, and I believe that Rosario, Guatemala City, and Panama City all meet the necessary criteria to host this great youth sports event,” said Panam Sports President and IOC Member Neven Ilic Alvarez.
A spokesperson added, “By June 15 at the latest, the cities that expressed interest must meet a series of requirements to submit a formal bid to Panam Sports. If the requirements are met in a timely and proper manner, the official candidate cities will be announced on June 19.
“It should be noted that the selection of the host city for the 2029 Junior Pan American Games will take place at the next Panam Sports General Assembly, scheduled to be held on August, 2026, in Lima, Peru.”
