Sean Trott Reflects On Half-Marathon Derby
Sean Trott says he remains motivated to return stronger next year after finishing sixth in the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby in challenging conditions.
The defending champion, who claimed his maiden title last year after four runner-up finishes, completed the 13.1-mile race in 1hr 16min 58sec.
Olympian Tyler Smith won the race for the first time in in 1:10:49.
“This year’s Bermuda Day half-marathon was not just a physical challenge due to the heat turning it up on the day, but also a mental challenge as I battled with myself for most of the way,” Trott wrote on social media.
“From early on, everything felt tough. My legs didn’t respond the way I wanted and my breathing was off. I knew it was going to be a long day out there.”
Trott said runners spend months preparing in the hope everything comes together on race day.
“Running is one of those sports, where you train for months on end and hope that everything comes together for you on the day,” he said.
“You hope for the best but accept what you’re given.”
Trott added that he remained grateful despite the difficult outing and plans to return next year.
“Yes, it was tough, but I’m grateful for the ability to continue doing a sport that I love,” he wrote.
“No, I’m not done. I’ll be back again for another crack at it next year!”
