The Bermuda Sea Cadet Corps held its annual Sponsored Row and Trashathon on Friday and Saturday, 15–16 May and is inviting the public to support its largest community fundraiser of the year and help reach a $20,000 fundraising goal.

A spokesperson said, “The event involved the Cadets and Juniors taking on a long‑distance row and kayak around St. George’s Harbour on Friday evening and Saturday morning, working together as a unit and putting their maritime training and teamwork to the test. Following the row, they all donned work gloves to carry out a trash clean‑up throughout public areas of St. George’s, reinforcing the Corps’ commitment to environmental responsibility and community service.

“All Cadets and Junior Cadets are currently collecting pledges from family, friends, and community members to support their efforts and fund the ongoing operation of the Unit. Funds raised help cover training, equipment, safety gear, and programme opportunities that develop leadership, responsibility, and seamanship skills in young people.”

“The Sponsored Row and Trashathon reflects the values of the Sea Cadets, teamwork, service, and care for our marine environment, while giving our Cadets an active role in supporting the organisation they are proud to be part of,” said Lieutenant Commander [SCC] Michael Frith, RNR, the Commander of the Bermuda Sea Cadet Corps.

The spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Sea Cadet Corps is calling on the public to get involved by sponsoring a Cadet, making a donation, or supporting the event in kind. Every contribution, large or small, helps ensure the continued delivery of a safe, structured, and enriching programme for Bermuda’s young people. The Corps is 100% volunteer-led, which ensures that every dollar raised goes directly to supporting the Cadets.”

“This incredible programme wouldn’t be possible without the support of our community,” added Lieutenant Commander [SCC] Michael Frith. “Every pledge is an investment in our young people and in the values of teamwork, service, and respect for Bermuda’s marine environment.”

The spokesperson said, “Donations and pledges may be made by direct transfer to BNTB 060-166017-0014 – Bermuda Sea Cadet Association [noting “Row and Trashathon” in the payee reference] or by contacting your favourite Cadet and offering to support their efforts. For queries or additional information on how you can support the Cadets, email bermudaseacadets@gmail.com

“The Bermuda Sea Cadet Corps extends its sincere thanks to all donors, volunteers, and supporters who help make the annual Sponsored Row and Trashathon a success.”
