Amelia Othman Rejoins ABIR Programme
The Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers [ABIR] officially kicks off their private-sector internship programme with today’s announcement of the return of Bermudian intern Amelia Othman as a Junior Analyst.
A spokesperson said, “Ms Othman will be building on her successful internship last summer when she made meaningful contributions to ABIR’s Policy and Regulatory operations.”
Collin Anderson, Director of Policy and Regulation, ABIR said: “We are extremely pleased Ms Othman is rejoining the ABIR office this summer. She brings great insight and interest to her work, and her contributions have already had a significant impact. We are confident that the hands-on experience she gained within Bermuda’s globally significant re/insurance industry will serve her well as she embarks upon her future career path.”
John Huff, CEO, ABIR said, “ABIR congratulates Ms Othman on her upcoming graduation from Brock University where she will receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration [with a specialism in International Business].
“ABIR members remain the largest collective contributor to Bermuda’s economy, contributing a record $1.2 billion to the economy in 2024, expected to be over $2 billion in upcoming 2025 figures. ABIR members also continue to build out Bermuda’s future talent pipeline via paid internships [with nearly 100 paid interns last summer] and awarded $1.25 million in scholarships for Bermudian students.”
The spokesperson said, “In addition, for the past six years ABIR has sponsored a free ‘Special Topics in Insurance’ course held in partnership with Bermuda College and the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science at St. John’s University and this year in collaboration with the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies, making further investments in Bermuda’s students.”
Ms. Othman said, “I am grateful to have the opportunity to return to ABIR as a Junior Analyst. Last summer introduced me to the world of Policy and Regulation, and being able to continue developing my skills within Bermuda’s re/insurance industry is incredibly rewarding. I’m excited to build on what I learned and further explore a field that has already had a strong impact on my career path.”
