On June 19th, the Flora Duffy Stadium was alive with excitement, energy, and the triumphant spirit of Bermuda’s 50+ community as the Move More Bermuda Games took centre stage. Hosted and organized by the Department of Health, with volunteering from Bermuda Physiotherapy Association and Allshores Wellness Coordinator, the event embodied this year’s theme: “Challenge Yourself – Embrace the Power of 50+.”

The Games welcomed participants aged 50 and older, with the eldest competitor in their 80s, proving that age is truly just a number when it comes to embracing active living. Attendees took part in a dynamic array of athletic challenges, including the 50m and 100m Dash, Long Jump, Shot Put, mixed 4x100m relay races, and a 5K road run. Spectators and participants alike were also treated to local food vendors and lively entertainment, making the evening a true celebration of movement and community.

This event was more than just a series of competitions; it was an inspiring showcase of longevity, camaraderie, and the limitless potential for healthy living at every age. The Bermuda Physiotherapy Association was proud to be present, offering on-site injury management and sharing physiotherapy tips for safe movement and injury prevention. Our advice for all participants: warm up before activity, stay hydrated, listen to your body, and don’t be afraid to modify movements to suit your comfort and ability. Remember, consistency is key: regular activity supports mobility, balance, and overall well-being well into our later years.

The success of the Move More Bermuda Games was the result of a dedicated partnership between healthcare organizations. The Bermuda Physiotherapy Association was honoured to be asked to serve as a vendor, contributing their time and expertise to this event. The BPA tent was coordinated by Natasia Symonds [BHB] and Raina Steer-Pitcher [CSOM], with volunteer support from Ciara Flanagan [CSOM] and Beth Hollis [Ocean Rock Wellness], in liaison with the Department of Health, to ensure a safe and engaging experience for all.

The Bermuda Physiotherapy Association extends thanks to everyone who participated and supported the event. Together, we are building a stronger, healthier community, one where age is truly just a number, and everyone can thrive. Keep moving, keep challenging yourself, and remember: staying active isn’t just about fitness, it’s about connection and lifelong vitality. If you’re considering starting a new exercise program, always consult your healthcare provider or physiotherapist to ensure a safe and positive experience.
