  • Joshua Powell will present “Maritime Operations in Bermuda.” Joshua is a multidisciplinary Bermudian who, at the age of 17, took the opportunity to gain his Merchant Navy Navigation Officer Ticket, travelling the world and learning about the maritime industry in multicultural environments. His presentation will explore the past, present and future of Bermuda’s rich maritime affiliation, including the workings and responsibilities of Bermuda’s 24-hour maritime operational hub. He will also share insight into how he keeps regulated and calm while working in high-stress environments.
  • Jae Johnston will present “Rebuilding Belief.” Jae is a Bermudian with a passion for music and nature. If she is not jamming on her guitar in her room, she can be found somewhere by the sea, meditating on the age-old questions that we all think of from time to time regarding the meaning of life. Her presentation explores her personal journey regarding spirituality as someone who is part of the LGBT+ community, asking what it means to reconcile your own experiences and faith with the opinions of other people and the injustices present in the world.
  • Heather Nicholds will present “Why I Fly & What It Taught Me.” Heather is a small aeroplane pilot and owner of Blue Sky Flights. Learning how to fly built her confidence and dedication, and she loves sharing the joy of flying through sightseeing tours while bringing discipline and commitment to every flight. Her presentation will explore what training to be a pilot taught her about discipline, responsibility, and why the work behind the passion is what makes it all worthwhile.
  • “Faraz Pourreza will present “Pulp Fiction: The Curious Power of Dental Stories.” Faraz is a local dentist currently completing a Masters in Endodontics, combining more than a decade of clinical experience with his degree in Human Behavioural Sciences to help treat anxious patients with dental phobia. His presentation will explore and debunk common dental myths, while helping audiences understand how falsehoods can reveal something very true about the human condition.
  • Aziza Furbert will present “Choosing Conscious Consumption.” As a marketing professional, Aziza has spent much of the past two decades influencing consumer decisions. Her marketing consultancy, Zinc Communications, provides strategy, communications, public relations and content services to a variety of clients. In her presentation, Aziza shares her journey as a consumer and explores how we can all use our purchasing power to benefit workers, the environment and social causes.

“Doors open at 6:30 PM, with presentations beginning at 7:00 PM. The event is free to attend, and a bar will be available thanks to Discovery Wines of Bermuda where cash donations for the drinks will go towards the Bermuda Society of Arts. Special thanks to sponsors BSOA, Discovery Wines and STE.
