Sailing: Kempe & Patton Conclude In Ireland
Bermudian sailors Sebastian Kempe and Campbell Patton finished 56th and 112th overall, respectively, as the 2026 ILCA 7 Men’s World Championship concluded in Dún Laoghaire, Ireland.
Kempe placed 23rd in the final Silver Fleet race to complete the 12-race championship with 160 net points. He finished ninth among the 47 sailors in the Silver Fleet and 56th in the 141-boat international field.
The Bermudian recorded his best results during the elimination stage, finishing third and second in successive Silver Fleet races. His two discarded results were 28th and 31st-place finishes.
Patton ended the championship by placing 13th in the final Bronze Fleet race. He finished with 245 net points, placing 18th among the 47 Bronze Fleet competitors and 112th overall.
His best result came in the penultimate race when he claimed first place in the Bronze Fleet, having finished 26th in the previous contest.
Hungary’s Jonatán Vadnai won the world championship with 47 points, finishing one point ahead of Australia’s Matt Wearn and Britain’s Michael Beckett, who secured silver and bronze, respectively.
The championship was organised by the National Yacht Club and Royal St George Yacht Club in conjunction with the International Laser Class Association.
