NSC On Planned Work At Stadium, Lights & More
Bermuda’s international football matches scheduled for October will be played in Barbados while the National Sports Centre carries out ‘scheduled, planned maintenance.’
The Bermuda Football Association announced the relocation while outlining plans for the upcoming domestic season. The BFA said, “In an unfortunate twist, the scheduled replacement of the field lights at the Dame Flora Duffy South Field will not be complete in time for Bermuda to host the group matches as scheduled in October. Hence, the team will now play in Barbados.”
Following the announcement, Bernews sought further information, and in response to our queries, a spokesperson for the Board of Trustees at the National Sports Centre said, “The National Sports Centre will be pausing international hosting over the next couple of months to complete essential structural work on the grandstand roof.
“Beginning in September, we will be removing the light standards mounted on the grandstand roof structure to allow for much needed maintenance and refinishing. This work is being carried out alongside broader structural repairs to the grandstand roof itself, including surface preparation, protective coating, and related works none of which can safely proceed with the venue in active use for international matches.
“This is scheduled, planned maintenance rather than the result of any unexpected issue, and reflects the NSC’s ongoing commitment to maintaining safe, high-quality facilities for our athletes, teams, and the community. Once the work is complete, the light standards and grandstand will be fully restored and brought back into service, and we look forward to resuming our international hosting schedule.”
