Vieira, Rodrigues Help Eckerd Place 5th At SAISA
Bermudian sailors Jordan Vieira and PJ Rodrigues helped Eckerd College finish fifth at the SAISA South Top Six Invite, hosted by the University of South Florida on Saturday [September 12].
Eckerd recorded 286 points across three divisions, with nine races completed, with Jacksonville University winning the six-team event with 126 points.
Vieira partnered with Avery Guck in A Division, winning two races and finishing with 64 points. They placed fifth among A Division entries and seventh in the combined 18-boat standings.
Rodrigues and Will Alvarado finished second among B Division entries and eighth overall with 71 points. Eckerd’s C Division pairing of Nic Dowling and Peyton Seidle placed 18th overall with 151 points.
Vieira, Guck, Rodrigues and Alvarado also formed one of Eckerd’s two teams for Sunday’s SAISA South Tournament at USF.
According to Eckerd’s report, thunderstorms interrupted racing before competition resumed around 2pm. Only one race was completed before the wind dropped, leaving insufficient racing for the event to count as an official regatta.
