Yung Gunz Sound To Celebrate 25th Anniversary
Yung Gunz Sound [YGS] will celebrate 25 years of music, friendship and entertainment with its “Memory Lane” anniversary event at Docksiders on Saturday [October 3].
A spokesperson said, “Twenty-five years of music, friendship and entertainment will take centre stage this Saturday, October 3, as Yung Gunz Sound celebrates its anniversary with ‘Memory Lane’ at Docksiders, from 9pm to 3am.
“YGS’s story began in 1999, when a group of friends came together through a shared love of playing music. By 2001, that passion had developed into a serious commitment to entertainment, laying the foundation for the sound’s 25-year journey.
“Made up of David Furtardo, known as ‘Big D’; David Vieira, better known as ‘DJ Scoobay’; and William DeSilva, known as ‘DJ Silva’, YGS has since played at venues across Bermuda, from east to west. Over the years, the group has brought its sound to so many dance floors that there are few local venues where it has not performed.
“YGS’s reach also extends beyond Bermuda, with a New York branch featuring Stevie, KG and KG’s daughter, KK. They perform at events across a wide range of locations, carrying the Yung Gunz Sound name to audiences beyond the island and adding another generation to its musical legacy.
“‘Memory Lane’ will celebrate that journey and the generations of supporters who have been part of it. The night promises an opportunity to reconnect with friends, revisit favourite anthems and create new memories through music.
“Joining YGS for the occasion is the legendary New York sound system Massive B, featuring Bobby Konders and Jabba.
“Massive B and YGS share a long history, and Massive B is no stranger to Bermuda. During the 1990s and 2000s, the New York sound system made frequent visits to the island, often appearing alongside the legendary Bermuda sound system Playbwoy. Those appearances helped strengthen the connection between Massive B, YGS and Bermuda’s vibrant sound-system culture.
“Massive B and YGS have also worked together at major international events. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Love and Harmony Cruise, where the two sounds have collaborated over the years. They have also joined forces on several occasions at Best of the Best, widely regarded as the biggest reggae concert in North America. Their reunion at ‘Memory Lane’ will celebrate not only YGS’s 25-year journey, but also the longstanding relationship between the two sound systems.
“Formed in 1992, Massive B rose to prominence during the 1990s, building an international reputation through its sound system, recordings and influential radio presence. Its musical reach has taken the sound across the Caribbean, Europe, Canada and Africa.
“For years, Sunday nights on New York’s HOT 97 have been closely associated with Bobby Konders and Jabba. Their reggae and dancehall shows, including ‘On Da Reggae Tip’ and ‘Fire Sundays’, became a familiar part of listening culture across the tri-state area, helping bring Caribbean music to a wider audience.
“Their appearance at ‘Memory Lane’ brings together two sounds whose histories span decades, making Massive B a fitting guest for YGS’s milestone celebration.
“The event will be hosted by Bermuda’s own General Kaution, with a stellar local lineup featuring YGS, King Jyrus, Blackstar and SoulJah One. Together, they will provide a night of classic favourites and crowd-moving anthems in celebration of YGS’s past and present.
“Tickets are $50 and can be purchased online at www.bdatix.bm.”
