MSC Meraviglia Diverts For Medical Care
The MSC Meraviglia diverted to Bermuda after a passenger suffered a serious cardiac emergency, with the patient brought ashore and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital on Monday [November 2].
A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Sunday, 1st November 2026, 06:00am – Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre (BMOC), operating as RCC Bermuda, received a call from the U.S. Coast Guard about a passenger on board the MSC Meraviglia who had suffered a serious cardiac emergency.
“BMOC confirmed with King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH) that it could provide the specialist cardiac care required. The vessel, which was then about 845 nautical miles from Bermuda, diverted to the island, and BMOC assumed coordination of the response.
“Over the next 40 hours, BMOC worked with the ship’s local agent, Bermuda Pilots, the Bermuda Hospitals Board and emergency medical services to arrange the transfer.
“At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Monday, 2 November, the pilot boat St. David went alongside the vessel near the pilot station and took on the patient, accompanied by members of the ship’s medical team.
“The patient was landed at Ordnance Island, where an ambulance was waiting, and was taken to KEMH shortly after 10:15 p.m. MSC Meraviglia then continued its passage to Boston from Portugal.”
