Ag Show: Metal Detectors, CCTV & Security
In what could be seen as unspoken nod to the recent issues in Bermuda, the Department of Parks has advised on security measures that will be taken at the popular Agricultural Exhibition [Ag Show] this year.
Measures that will be taken include having visitors passing through metal detectors, closed circuit television cameras, police stationed at all entrances and through the grounds as well as private security guards.
The Ag Show, held at the Botanical Gardens in Paget, will start this Thurs April 15, and will run for 3 days ending April 17. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for under 16 years, and children under 5 years old are free.
Security measures will include:
- Metal detector wands and booths will be established at all entrances, and all visitors must pass through them. The Parks Department have stated that those who refuse scrutiny by the metal detectors will be refused entry.
- There will be closed circuit television and manned monitoring stations throughout the entire grounds and at all entrances.
- Along with the police caravan that is present every year at the Exhibition, there will also be police stationed at all entrances and throughout the grounds for all three days. In addition, they will be assisted by security personnel from some of the private firms.
- Security personnel will patrol the entire perimeter of the Botanical Gardens and be stationed at all of the entrances.
Minister Glenn Blakeney said:
As usual The Ministry of the Environment and Sports, and specifically, the Department of Parks are taking public safety very seriously. The safety and security measures at the show have always been a priority and this year is no exception.
We have met with relevant Government Departments, the Bermuda Police Service and private security services to bring a public private partnership together to ensure that we provide an enjoyable experience for all those who attend.
