Double Trouble: Shot Two Separate Times

September 26, 2010

As most people are painfully aware, gang-related shootings have become common in Bermuda, with victims being targeted on two separate occasions also becoming far more prevalent. In the last week alone, two shooting victims have faced down the barrel of a gun previously.

  • The 29-year-old who was shot on Sept 23 while the Police were in the area, was previously shot, only yards away from where he was shot this month in the St Monica’s Mission area.
  • One of the men shot in the double shooting on Sept 20 in Friswells Hill, is reported to have been shot at before. The Sept 20th shooting saw a gunman on a bike fire at two 22-year-old men while they were also on a bike, causing them to crash.
  • 47-year-old Troy “Yankee” Rawlins, who was fatally shot in August of this year, had been shot at before. Both incidents occurred on Court Street, and both have resulted in arrests, with the suspect being brought before the court. David Cox has been charged in relation to his 2010 murder, Anthony Swan was convicted of the 2009 attempted shooting, and Alvone Maybury has been charged in relation to the 2009 incident.
  • 24-year-old Prince Edness was shot on Aug 6th, 2010 in the Elliott/Court Street area. Mr. Edness was previously shot, with the first time being two years, also in August, only a few yards away from where he was shot in 2010.
  • 27-year-old Jakai Harford was shot while sitting in a taxi outside of his Pembroke home in March 2010, marking the second time he was shot. He was also the victim of gun violence in the early hours of Christmas Day in 2007, when he was shot in the shoulder while in the Camp Hill, Southampton area. Mr Harford’s brother Kumi was fatally shot in 2009.
  • A 16-year-old who was shot on June 16th while visiting the Friswell’s Hill area with his mother’s 22-year-old boyfriend, had his Mount Hill residence shot at only weeks later on July 12th, 2010. The gunmen missed the residents, however bullet holes could be seen in the home’s wall. The teenager’s father was fatally shot some years back.

In addition to the exact examples listed above spanning the last few months, there are several unconfirmed reports of persons being targeted on two separate occasions. We are not aware of anyone locally having been shot at three separate times, however that could change at some point in the future.

I don’t know what to say but “Wow”. You live by the gun then you die by the gun!

I wrote a poem. It rhymes. “Name them, shame them, bring back the gallows please”
