The police were on the scene this morning, as was Michael Weeks, the MP for the area [Pembroke East Central]. Mr Weeks expressed grave concern over the rising crime levels and shared plans for CCTV and additional lighting to be placed soon. The PLP MP grew up in the area, and expressed his desire to do all he can to assist.

In a gesture that told it all, an area resident walked up the hill appearing to be setting out on an exercise walk, saw the Police tape, shook his head in despair and walked away.

Bernews understands the victim may be the brother of a man murdered last year. We will not name him pending the official police statement.

There are also [unconfirmed] reports this may not be the first attempt made on his life, one having been made in 2007. In addition there are [unconfirmed] reports that this shooting may be gang related.
