CADA: Last Free TIPS Training Sessions
CADA, Encouraging Responsible Alcohol Behavior,
today (Nov 7) announced it will hold the last free TIPS training sessions during the week of November 15.
As stated in the recently amended Bermuda Liquor Licensing Act, in June 2011, all licensed establishment must have a TIPS certified manager on duty at all times during operating hours.
The law also states that Police Enforcement Officers can go into a licensed establishment and ask to see the manager’s TIPS certification card. Without the card the establishment can be fined up to $3,000.
In making the announcement today, CADA Chairman, Mr. Anthony Santucci said, “CADA is pleased to inform the public that there are still 50 spaces available at the next TIPS training sessions which will be held during the week of November 15. We are encouraging any managers, supervisors or persons who are regularly in charge of licensed establishments and who have not yet received TIPS certification to contact our offices to sign up.”
Mr. Santucci continued, “After the free sessions later this month we will conduct training in February and again in May next year and each participant will pay $50.00 for the training. TIPS stands for Training for Intervention Procedures, it is an internationally recognized, responsible alcohol sales and service training program and upon completion of the five and a half hour course participants will be able to:
- Spot underage drinkers and prevent alcohol sales to minors;
- Intervene quickly and assuredly in potential problem situations;
- Understand the difference between people enjoying themselves and those getting into trouble with alcohol;
- Handle alcohol related situations with greater confidence; and
- Use proven strategies to prevent alcohol related problems.”
Mr. Santucci concluded, “CADA encourages all establishments whose managers and supervisors have not yet gone through the TIPS training to sign up immediately by contacting our offices at 295 5982.”
