Sherrita Arorash Wins Actuarial Award
Sherrita Adele Arorash, a student in a Bachelor of Science program with a major in Actuarial Science, is the third Bermudian student to receive the American Safety Reinsurance, Ltd. Award for Achievement in Actuarial Studies offered to actuarial students from Bermuda. Ms Arorash is a third year student attending the Manhattan Campus at St. John’s University in New York.
In addition to gaining a university degree, students who want to become fully accredited actuaries must pass an additional 9 exams, usually taking the first 2 or 3 while in college and the remainder over the next several years while they are employed. Ms Arorash successfully completed the first exam [Part 1 – Probability] for admission to the Casualty Actuarial Society.
Guy Cloutier, Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary of American Safety Reinsurance, Ltd., said, “We are delighted to show our support and encouragement to Sherrita through this award of $500. She has demonstrated her talent and is working hard to achieve her dreams.” Other recipients were Lorenzo Whitehurst in October 2008 and Christina Ratteray in May 2010.

Looking at American Safety’s websit it appears that you’re one of three people to have claimed this award – given the number of Bermudians abroad who are pursuing degrees in actuarial science I do find that surprising. But once more, congratulations.
