Stabbing: 26-Yr-Old Arrested This Morning

[Updated] A 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with yesterday’s stabbing this morning [Mar.21] Police confirm the arrest occurred a short time ago, after the suspect was found in a residence on Scotts Hill Road in Sandys.

At approximately 12:30 yesterday afternoon [Mar.20] a 57-year-old man was stabbed repeatedly outside a residence on Pleasantville Lane in Sandys. Police said the man was “set upon by a 26 year old Sandys man.” The victim was rushed by ambulance to hospital where he was placed in the Intensive Care Unit, and the Police canvassed the area for the suspect.

Update 9:30am: As of this time, the victim remains in stable condition in the ICU.

Update 12:00pm: Official Police statement, and also age is amended to 57, not 58 as initially reported.

Around 6am today (Monday, March 21st 2011) a 26 year old Sandys parish man suspected of seriously assaulting a 57 year old Sandys parish man was arrested by Police after being located at a Sandys parish residence. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

A check of the victim’s condition also around 6am today confirmed that he is in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing by the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit and anyone with any information that may assist is encouraged to contact detectives on 234-1010.

    Bermuda needs more social workers than accountants!!

    Hopefully he can get the much needed help he requires and know this is not sentencing him to a term at Westgate Correctional Facility. This young man suffers from a mental illness in which Bermuda prisons are not equipped to deal with. We have already seen an inmate who committed the same type of offence later go on to commit suicide at the Westgate Correctional Facility. Lets help this young man instead of just locking him up!!!
