BBFS: Football/Life-Skills Dellwood Program

June 24, 2011

Bermuda’s Brazilian Football School [BBFS] will partner with Dellwood Middle School to provide a Football and Life-Skills based program for 20 youth players, both male and female.

The program will see the group meet once a week between October to December [7 week pilot program exact dates to be confirmed] and receive 55-60 minutes of training, followed by 10—15 minutes of Life-Skills.

The Life-Skills subjects to be delivered will focus on anti gang/drug messages, anti bullying, money management, SAT awareness, safe usage of social networking and future career/education.

The program is based on reaching students aged 11-14 that are at a key stage in their lives, and reinforcing positive lifestyles and healthy decisions in a safe but fun environment.

Selection will be at the discretion of the school as this their pilot program, and BBFS said they wish to gauge the interest of all students and not exclude anyone from wishing to register.

The approval for the program was granted by Principal Dr. Janette Musson and Mr. Richard Todd Physical Education Teacher. They have approved the program with coaching and mentoring by Dennis Brown and Cal Blankendal, with the support of additional BBFS coaches. This program will see no cost to each participant, as BBFS aims to have the program fully funded.

Each participant will have to attend each session on time and in the appropriate uniform, with a 250 word essay to be written at the end of the program.

The overall goal of BBFS is to use football as a motivational tool to; promote personal and team development, teach life-skills and promote further education in a challenging, fun and drug free setting.

BBFS is in discussion to facilitate future programs starting in 2013 and will engage in talks with other interested schools or organizations in 2012.
