Public Service Bursary Awards Presented

The Department of Human Resources recently held their Annual Public Service Bursary Awards Reception with students being presented their awards by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Kim Wilson.

The Public Service Bursary Award Scheme [awarded by the Public Service Commission] is designed to assist Bermudian students with educational expenses. Up to 15 bursaries are awarded annually to Bermudians pursuing post-secondary academic and technical qualifications in a discipline that has been identified as one that meets the future needs of the Government. The bursaries are valued at $10,000 per annum for a period not exceeding five years.

New Recipients:

  • Isha Douglas is pursuing a Bachelor of Law degree at the University of Buckingham and is sponsored by Land, Surveys and Registration.
  • Justin Simmons is pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering at Aston University and is sponsored by the Department of Works and Engineering.
  • Kascia White is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology at St. Mary’s University and is sponsored by the Department of Conservation Services.

Continuing Recipients:

  • Rashida Bean is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Accounting at Alabama A & M University and is sponsored by the Department of Works and Engineering.
  • Quincy Glasford is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Maintenance Science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and is sponsored by the Department of Civil Aviation.
  • Ricardo Graham-Ward is pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering at Loughborough University and is sponsored by the Department of Works and Engineering.
  • Deana-Marie Gilbert is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at East Carolina University and is sponsored by the Department of Health.
  • Tika Gilbert is pursuing a Masters of Architecture degree at Kingston University and is sponsored by the Procurement Office, Project Management.
  • Allanette Hayward is pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering at Bradford College and is sponsored by the Department of Works and Engineering.
  • Christopher (Shane) McIlwain is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in surveying & Mapping Services at the University of East London and is sponsored by the Department of Environment, Planning and Infrastructure.
  • Yvonna Osborne is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Economics at Temple University and is sponsored by the Department of Statistics.
  • Emily Siggins is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts Aviation Management with Flight and is sponsored by the Department of Civil Aviation.
  • Sherleeta Simmons is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration-Corporate Law at Strayer University and is sponsored by the Legislature.
  • Christen Simmons is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Law at the University of Leicester and is sponsored by the Department of Public Prosecutions.

Graduates:

  • Cameron Corday earned a Bachelor of Engineering from Penn State University and was sponsored by the Department of Works and Engineering where he is now employed as a Trainee Mechanical Engineer.
  • Shari Scott earned a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Springfield College and was sponsored by the Department of Health. Ms. Scott has spent two years working at the Bermuda Hospitals Board and two years at the Department of Health.
  • Dessiree Waldron earned a Bachelor of Arts in Management Accounting from North Carolina A & T State University. Ms. Waldron was sponsored by the Department of Accountant General where she is employed as an Accountant.

    WOW . . . and not one award area of Special Education and./or Behavioral Therapy????? Are our eyes really wide open???? We have a wealth of children in need of BEhavior Therapy, as we can see from the fuss made over students abroad in treatment programs, and not one award area in a field to help meet this need!!!! Hmmmmmm . . .
